Make a difference this Foster Care Fortnight

At Star Radio, we're excited to support Foster Care Fortnight from 13th to 26th May - a national campaign that shines a light on fostering and its impact on children and young people. This year, Cambridgeshire County Council is inviting you to become part of their fostering community, offering you the chance to change a child's life.

Why foster?

Fostering can be a child's first positive experience of a loving family. It's an opportunity to create stability, security, and memorable moments. Whether it's a simple act of kindness or a life-changing event, fostering is filled with moments that build confidence and create lasting memories.

The best part? Fostering is open to everyone

Whether you're single, married, straight, gay, or in a partnership, what matters most is your commitment to providing a safe, stable, and loving environment. If you're over 21 and have a spare bedroom, you can foster. You don't need to be rich, employed, or have children of your own. All you need is a caring attitude and a desire to help.

Cambridgeshire County Council provides comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure your success as a foster carer. They're there for you every step of the way, making sure you have everything you need to make a difference.

Real stories illustrate the impact of fostering

Take Anna and her husband, who began fostering in 2017 when they moved to Cambridgeshire. Since then, their family has grown from four to five, and they even adopted one of their foster children. “We wanted to make a difference,” Anna says, “and give children positive memories.” Despite the challenges, Anna's family continues to foster, offering support and love to children of all ages and backgrounds.

Start your fostering journey

If you're interested in fostering, attending an information session is a great start. Cambridgeshire County Council hosts virtual and in-person events where you can learn everything you need to know. You can also visit their website to find out more about fostering, register for upcoming sessions, and see how you can make a difference.
