Stamford Georgian Festival Cancelled

Popular biennial event, celebrating the influential Georgian heritage of the town, has been cancelled for 2021 over COVID capacity concerns.

Councillor Rosemary Trollope-Bellew, Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy at South Kesteven District Council, said: “Traditionally, much of the success of this Festival is in those special events and activities that make the experience so memorable for visitors – carriage rides, dances in the Arts Centre Ballroom, and the myriad workshops and community programmes that bring people together.

“Along with promoters of events across the country, it has been very challenging to plan and promote the Festival with the level of confidence needed to ensure its usual success.

“We take this decision with a heavy heart and believe it is the most appropriate course of action at this time.”

The Georgian Festival usually attracts more than 50,000 visitors to Stamford to enjoy the four days of arts and heritage events.
