Addenbrookes Declared Safe After Chemical Incident

Fire service confirms Addenbrookes Hospital lab is now safe after monitoring the air using specialist equipment following Monday's chemical incident.

The fire service was called to reports of a chemical leak at Addenbrooke's Hospital at around 11.20am on Monday. The NHS trust that runs the site says a substance was spilled in the laboratory block. Six staff were treated for "respiratory issues" but are said to be "medically well".

Crews from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene as a precaution. More than 20 firefighters, including crews from Cambridge, St Neots and Newmarket in Suffolk are at the scene. No patient services were affected.

A specialist unit remained on site to conduct further monitoring into the evening and crews left the scene of the incident and returned to their stations by 6.15pm.
