'Cycle-friendly' Traffic Signals Bound For Cambridge

The ‘low level’ advanced traffic signals will be set up at Hills Road at the Brooklands Avenue, Cherry Hinton Road and Station Road junctions.

These advanced signals, which will be installed in the coming weeks, allow cyclists to move off before other traffic to improve road safety.

Signals in Regent Street will also have new technology added to lengthen the time of the green light for cyclists coming off from Parker’s Piece during busy periods.

The Greater Cambridge Partnership installed ‘low level’ signals at the junction of Arbury Road and Campkin Road in 2019 and is looking at the potential for adding more cycle-friendly signals around Greater Cambridge.

The signals are being installed by Cambridgeshire County Council, which installed the UK’s first approved advanced signals for cyclists in Castle Street and Magdalene Street in 2013.
