Drug operation in St Neots

AN OPERATION targeting social drug use within licensed premises and associated violent crime was carried out in St Neots.

The operation, which took place last Friday evening and night (March 31) was supported by the force’s Huntingdonshire licensing officer, members of the local police problem solving team, Special constables, a Security Industry Authority investigator, and passive drugs dog PD Emma and her handler PC Julie Hargreaves of Staffordshire Police.

As a result of the operation a quantity of drugs was located and seized.

Officers used drug wipes to detect drug use and advised the managers of any positive findings. One discovery included evidence that a baby changing mat had been used to take cocaine.

PC Paul Hawkins said: “The evening was greeted positively by members of the public and the licensees, with no reported incidents of violence on the evening in the town centre.

“This is another excellent example of partnership working with Cambridgeshire Constabulary, the Security Industry Authority , Huntingdonshire Community Safety Partnership and Huntingdon Businesses Against Crime.

“We will continue working with licensed premises and partners to take positive action against drug use and disrupt the activities of those involved. Further operations involving the use of a passive drugs dog are planned.”
