Egg-stra waste call for Easter bin collections

Chocolate lovers are being reminded to think green and recycle extra plastic, cardboard and foil from eggs this Easter.

Easter is the biggest chocolate-selling period of the year after Christmas. Approximately 80 million chocolate eggs are sold in the UK, generating almost 5,000 tonnes of card, foil and plastic – all of which can be recycled by Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire residents in their blue bins.

Extra waste generated in the UK at Easter is equivalent to the weight of around 600 double decker buses, and the two councils are urging residents to make sure that they recycle as much as possible.

Local residents are also being reminded to check their bin collection dates for Easter and the start of May, as regular collection days will change due to bank holidays:

The centres are open over the Easter and bank holiday weekends. Find out more at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk

Bin collection dates, including changes to Easter and May bank holiday collections, can be found by visiting www.cambridge.gov.uk/binday, www.scambs.gov.uk/services/bins and in council magazines or bin calendars delivered to homes in February and March.
