Thief Stole Champagne And Smoked Salmon

A thief who stole items including bed sheets, smoked salmon and champagne has been sentenced.

Jack Mann was identified as being responsible for seven shop liftings across Cambridge between 4 October and 15 January.

He targeted stores including Next in Sidney Street, Sainsbury’s in Brooks Road and Sidney Street and Co-Ops in Perne Road, Hills Road and Chesterton Road.

On most occasions he stole alcohol including beer, cider, wine, spirits and champagne but he also took 10 packs of smoked salmon and two sets of bedding.

Police arrested 19-year-old Mann on Sunday (15 January) in Cambridge. He was charged and at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (17 January) he pleaded guilty to seven counts of theft.

He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, and must also pay £428 in compensation to stores.

PC Greg Langham, who investigated, said: “Shoplifting can have a detrimental effect on retailers and customers, and we’ll continue to target those who offend.”
