Anniversary appeal following Cambridge assault

POLICE are launching a fresh appeal for information a month on from an assault on a woman in her 20s in Cambridge.

The victim was attacked in Milton’s Walk close to Christ’s Pieces at about 3am on New Year’s Day. She was approached from behind and assaulted. A struggle took place, in which the victim bit the offender, before members of the public intervened and scared the man off.

Earlier this month officers investigating the incident released CCTV footage of a man they would like to speak to in connection with it. In addition to the footage, the man is described as white, aged under 40, of slim build and with dark hair.

Detective Constable Lucy Bright said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim who was left incredibly distraught by the experience. She bravely fought back and is likely to have caused an injury her attacker’s hand.

“Someone must know more about the identity of the attacker or what happened that night. Please do the right thing and get in touch.

“If you have any information about the incident or recognise the man in the CCTV, please contact us as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident should call police on 101 quoting CF0000450118 or visit www.cambs.police.uk/report. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
