Arbury Carnival offers fun and entertainment for the whole comunity

THIS YEAR’S Arbury Carnival promises to be a day of fun and entertainment for people of all ages.

The community event, which Cambridge City Council helps fund, is being opened this year by The Mayor of Cambridge Cllr Nigel Gawthrope, and takes place tomorrow, Saturday 9 June at Arbury Town Park, off Campkin Road.

Among the attractions at the carnival will be fairground rides, stalls, music, dance, and a range of other live performers including gymnasts and cheerleaders.
The carnival is preceded by a procession starting at 12 noon from Armitage Way to Campkin Road featuring local groups on decorated floats.

This year’s procession will also include giant puppets created by students from North Cambridge Academy in conjunction with Kettle’s Yard gallery and the Tate Modern.

Following the procession The Mayor will officially open the carnival from its arena stage before spending some time meeting people attending the event and those who have helped organise it.

The carnival continues until 5pm and will be followed by Pop in the Park from 7pm-10pm featuring live music.

Cllr Nigel Gawthrope, Mayor of Cambridge, said: “The carnival is always a great celebration of community life and an occasion when everyone comes together.

entertainment.”
