Corn Exchange turning blue to mark NHS 70th birthday

Cambridge Corn Exchange is being lit up blue this evening, 5 July, as part of the NHS’ 70th anniversary celebrations.

Cambridge City Council and Cambridge Live are supporting a nationwide event, which will see iconic buildings and monuments across the country turning blue as a show of support for the work of the NHS on its 70th birthday.

People are also being encouraged to take photos of buildings lit up in blue and to share them on social media using the hashtags #NHS70 and #LightUpBlue.

The Corn Exchange will be lit up blue from 6pm this evening and is set to look stunning from dusk, just after 10pm, when councillors will be there to toast the achievements of the NHS.

Cllr Lewis Herbert, Leader of the Council, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the celebrations to mark the 70th birthday of the NHS and look forward to seeing our iconic Corn Exchange building lit up blue for the night tonight.

“The NHS is this country’s most precious organisation, relied upon by so many of us to provide expert healthcare, advice and support throughout our lives. It is only right that we should pay tribute in this way and congratulate the NHS on this significant anniversary.”
