Final preparations for Parklife 2018

Final preparations are being made for Parklife 2018, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s free family fun day this weekend.

The event at Milton Country Park on Sunday 1 July from 10am to 5pm is organised by the Council in partnership with Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust, the charity which manages the country park. It brings together lots of free outdoor activities and entertainment.

Thousands of visitors are expected, and with hot weather forecast, the Council is reminding them all to bring sunscreen, drinking water and hats!

Activities on offer will include a mobile caving system, paddle-boarding, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, archery, den-building, wild-crafting, football zorbs, speed goal and football darts, pond-dipping, a bouncy castle, inflatable assault course, buggy bootcamp, climbing wall, balance bikes and all-ability bikes. Hovercraft rides will also be available for a donation, courtesy of local charity Hoveraid.

All activities are free of charge and for most, visitors can just turn up on the day. Some advance bookings have been made for watersports such as canoeing, kayaking and paddle-boarding, but remaining slots will be available to book from 10am on the day.

Parents bringing along children for certain activities are being reminded to ensure the kids have the right shoes with them. Children are required to wear socks on the inflatable slide and bouncy castle, and closed-toe shoes on the climbing wall.

The best place to park for free on the day will be at Milton Park and Ride, CB24 6DQ, which is a 15-minute walk to the Country Park via the footbridge over the A10. There will be signs from the Park and Ride to the Country Park, indicating which way visitors should walk to Parklife. Parking at the Country Park costs £4 and will be extremely limited.

Cllr Anna Bradnam, Member for Milton and Waterbeach and Vice-Chairman of South Cambridgeshire District Council will be opening the event, and said: “It looks like we’re in for some lovely sunshine all week and into the weekend, so it’ll be the perfect weather to enjoy being outdoors at the beautiful Milton Country Park. There will be thousands of people all trying out lots of exciting activities in the open air, and I’m really looking forward to joining them. Please do respect the village of Milton and use the free parking at the Park and Ride site. Make sure you bring plenty of water to drink, along with sunscreen and hats, to make sure you can really enjoy all the activities on offer.”

Parklife would not be possible without the help of Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust, Sawston Sports Centre, Tesco, Real Life, Wildly Curious and Crossfit Stags and Does.
