Force prepares for first annual awards ceremony

ON Friday evening (July 14), the force will hold its first annual award ceremony to recognise the outstanding contributions of officers, staff, Specials, volunteers and cadets.

The event will acknowledge those who have truly gone above and beyond their role to help ‘create a safer Cambridgeshire’ through a number of award categories.

Held at the Burgess Hall in St Ives, the ceremony – hosted by Rev Richard Coles - will include food, drinks, music and presentations of awards by the Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner along with award sponsors. Chief Constable Alec Wood said: “So much brave and admirable work goes on every day and I look forward to formally recognising this and congratulating our policing stars who have gone the extra mile.

“At a time when many of us are stretched, those showing the utmost commitment and dedication to making our communities safer shouldn’t go unnoticed.

“My thanks and gratitude also goes to all of our sponsors who helped us fund the evening. We wouldn’t have been able to make the event happen without your support.”

Seven companies and organisations, including close partners of the force, have helped fund the evening through donations.

The sponsors include: website developers Zengenti, sponsors of the Team of the Year award; software developers Black Marble, sponsors of the Commitment to Safeguarding award; the Police Federation, sponsors of the Police Officer of the Year Award; recruitment agency Reed Business Support, sponsors of the Police Staff Employee of the Year award; security technology company eTect, sponsors of the Investigator of the Year Award; education researchers and assessors Cambridge Assessment, sponsors of the Student Officer of the Year Award; financial services and welfare support provider Police Mutual, sponsors of the Commitment to Health and Wellbeing Award.

A total of 14 awards will be presented on the night and those shortlisted in each category – 70 officers and staff are attending the ceremony.  The other award categories are:

  • Special Officer of the Year
  • Police Community Support Officer of the Year
  • Cadet of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Commitment to Outstanding Leadership
  • Unsung Hero
