Start confirmed for large extension to Littleport station car park

Work to increase the parking spaces will begin at Littleport railway station will begin in August, local Councillors have today revealed.

The extra 80 spaces, which have been given the green light from the East Cambridgeshire District Council’s planning team, represent a 200% increase on current available parking space, and mean that more people can access the main Kings Lynn – London line.

The Asset Development Committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council (ECDC) have worked alongside local Councillors and plan to open the new facility early in 2018.

Cllr Bill Hunt, Chair of the ECDC Asset Development committee commented: “These spaces are much needed and are a significant boost for people who want to use Littleport station to get to work. It will also boost local economy and make Littleport and the surrounding area a more attractive place to live.”

He added: “Alongside the extra spaces which are being built at Ely train station, and coupled with the opening of the new Cambridge North railway station, it means that travelling to work by train for people in our District has become much more viable.”

David Ambrose-Smith, Chair of the Community committee and District Councillor for Littleport added: “More car parking spaces being available will have a big impact on the area surrounding the station and will mean people don't have to park at inconvenient and sometimes illegal locations."

The Littleport station car parking charges will remain the same
