Hundreds take part in the Star Shine Night Walk 2023

Nearly 400 people took part in the 2023 Star Shine Night Walk for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Nearly 400 people took to the streets of Cambridge on Saturday night to raise money for the city's beloved Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Hosted by Star Radio, 380 participants walked either a 5 or 10 mile route in memory of loved ones cared for by Arthur Rank.  The hospice, based in Shelford, runs at a cost of over £12 million pound each year and is currently facing a funding shortfall of £230,000.  It's hoped the event will raise £40,000 once all sponsorships and donations are collected.

Founded in 1981, Arthur Rank Hospice supports people living in Cambridgeshire with an advanced serious illness or a life-limiting condition and those in need of end-of-life care.

They care for more than 4,100 patients each year at their Hospice in Cambridgeshire, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre in Wisbech and in patients' own homes via the Arthur Rank Community Team. All of their care is provided free of charge to patients and their families.

One of the event's biggest fundraisers was 'Charlie's Angels' lead by Jessica Massie, whose husband was cared for by the hospice until his passing just eight days ago.  They alone have raised £5,000 for the charity.

Star Radio's Andy Lake spoke to Donna Talbot, Communications and Income Generation Director at Arthur Rank.

If you'd like to raise money for the charity, there are still a number of events to come throughout 2023.  Details can be found here
